My Love Language

Psalm 139 is well known scripture for many mommies. Verses 14-17 resonate with us-

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

But it is Psalm 139:1 that takes my breath away, "O Lord, You have searched me and know me."

To me being known is being seen. Being seen is being loved.

That is my Love Language.

It is how I am best loved. It is how I love best.

The more I know Jesus, the more I believe this is His Love Language.

This is what I like most about Jesus.

Jesus is intentional about knowing people. He sees us. Doesn't judge at first glance, but gets to the heart of us, to our story, to all the stories that have come before ours. Stories good, bad, of defeat, and victory which were written into our stories, and He knows us. Knows us better than we know ourselves. Gets us. See's us. And ENTIRELY Loves us!

I want to know, see, and love like Jesus.

For too many years I have played loving because it was the "Christian" thing to do. But in too many circumstances I never really loved. I was just meeting my Christian requirements. I don't think that is entirely bad, sometimes we must "fake it till we make it." Obedience is the first step. But I've outgrown just being obedient. I want to love, from my inmost being I want to love.

I want to love:

My neighbor. Who is broken. She resides in a prison not made of visible bars, but of drugs, alcohol, and defeat.

My neighbor's children.

A friend, who has destroyed her life, and is living in lies.

A relative whose choices grieve me.

and too many more...

I want to love them.

This is a gift I can give daily.
What gift can you give daily?

  1. Denise,

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. I've spent a few moments going through your blog. You truly are a lovely lady with a lovely family. I would have to say that I feel a bit of hope and refreshment looking over your lovely photos and heart felt words.

To answer your question, "What gift can I give today?" I would have to say that I can offer the gift of encouragement to those whose hearts have been broken due to a broken marriage and broken trust. Encouragement that God is loving and protecting us even when the worst of our fears appear to be playing out around us. Encouragement helps remind us that God is still in control and he still has a wonderful plan for our lives!!

PS Out of all the lines of the song by Sara Groves you picked my favorite :O)

I agree that keeping our eyes on the promised land is a good thing! Have a great day!

  2. Beautiful, Denise. He sees the depths of our souls, and He loves us the same. Thank you for sharing your heart on that verse, it's beautiful.
Honestly I'm having a day where I don't know what I can give because I'm feeling pretty empty. But...the sun will shine again soon and shed light on that gift. This I am sure of.

  5. It was one of THOSE really yucky kind of days, so I really appreciated reading that Psalm on your blog tonight. Such a sweet reminder of my Savior's love.

And it makes me long to look outside my own silly troubles to love those around me.

  7. Denise, Psalm 139 is my favourite Psalm. Coming from a broken family, it reminds me who first loved me and created me. I love reading this when I'm struggling with my family. Thanks for dropping by my blog. In regards to the devotion/bible reading plan, it was free through the Bible League of Canada. Hope you stop by again.

  8. I want to love like that too!
    To really love.
To love without seeing personality or circumstance.
To love right to the core of that person.
To see the Jesus in them.

The best way I know how to love is through words. It is my love language.

I need Jesus to give me the right words... too often my words are NOT the right ones in situations where I am just loving "the Christian way"
I need Him to speak. I need Him to help me love.

  9. Thanks for stopping by! I'm sure glad you did...I really needed to hear your post today and I wouldn't have found it if you hadn't commented. I remember reading this scripture in my last Bible study and it was nice to hear it again today!

  10. Hagar also called God, "The God who sees me". Genesis 16:13. Isn't it wonderful that we have a God who knows us so personally?

  11. I think that's my love language, too. You share your heart beautifully. Are you familiar with the Hebrew word yada? It speaks of the intimate knowledge that God has of us. Like it says in Ps. 139, he knows every part of us. It is what every soul longs for. It's my favorite word (when used correctly!! :)
